032 Revolution Fan Podcast – Patriot Games

S02E04-Patriot-GamesIn this episode of Revolution Fan Podcast, Tom, Jenn, Shelley and Rob talk about the Revolution season 2, episode 4, Patriot Games. We talk about Revolution Revealed, Aaron’s Journal, and introduce Kill Count Stats. We listen to and talk about your feedback.

In this week’s discussion of the episode, we talk about:

  • Our overall satisfaction of the episode
  • Aaron’s visions and his new “powers” with the fireflies. Does he have control of them? Despite what Aaron mentioned last week, he is like Harry Potter.
  • Aaron burning up these two Patriots were like when Dr. Warren cooked in episode 14 last season.
  • How does Aaron’s two incidents this week relate to his vision of Ben last week? When did he get his powers?podcast-150x150
  • Jenn proposed the “Nanite Daddy” theory of why they chose Aaron.
  • Rachel was very right. She seems less crazy, although she was not very cautious.
  • Jenn and Rob think Ken deliberately got Rachel to talk to find out what she knew and to help the Patriots.
  • It’s odd that the Patriots have not taken Rachel into custody, even though they have all the Wanted posters, and she broke into Ed Truman’s office.
  • Rob and Jenn would have loved to see a scene showing Ken getting recruited by the Patriots seven years ago. Shelley thinks they may have targeted Ken specifically because of her relationship with Rachel
  • The Patriots’ strategy of keeping all of Titus’ family at the Willoughby Trainyards and killing a couple every day as well as anyone who goes outside the gate to continue to show the townspeople that it is dangerous outside the walls
  • The Patriots have really good soulless plans
  • Rachel and how she was able to save herself at a point that no one else was able to save her
  • Charlie and how she held her own against the guys at the bar. Jenn mentioned a tweet about how they the writers write helpless women, and how Rachel’s kick-ass escape was good.
  • Rob talked about Juliet in Lost, also played by Elizabeth Mitchell was really good at diffusing situations by talking. Jenn posited that Jessica (Titus’ wife) showed strength by killing herself
  • Miles’ scene with Titus. He survived last week and Jenn thought it was strange that he  was one that escaped the Patriots
  • Taking a historic look at the Rachel and Miles relationship
  • Rob and Jenn appreciate a couple of well done writing/editing times: When Charlie passed out, and then Rachel comes to, and the murder montage when Neville and Rachel were both cleaning up their murders alternately.
  • The use of diamonds as a currency. No one looks at the diamonds with a loupe in this show
  • Neville’s opportunity to promote himself.
  • The uneasy alliances we already have with Charlie and Monroe, and the upcoming alliances with Rachel and Monroe
  • Tom and Shelley think the Patriots may have originally caused the blackout to rebuild the United States in a different way
  • We talked about this week’s Revolution Revealed and Aaron’s Journal

Next week’s episode is called One Riot, One Ranger, which was the pilot of Walter, Texas Ranger and a TV trope based on an alleged conversation from the 1930s. The following episode is Dead Man Walking and the next episode is The Patriot Act.

Tom introduced some Kill Count stats about the frequency of killing/episode and consecutive episode killing streak.

We played a voicemail from Todd in North Carolina. We talked about comedy, or at least funny lines and moments, and about ratings.

We talked about the preview for next week, mostly about Aaron debriefing with Miles and Rachel. We also talked about the upcoming reunion with Charlie and Monroe.

031 Revolution Fan Podcast – Love Story

S02E03-Love-StoryIn this episode of Revolution Fan Podcast, Tom, Jenn, and Rob talk about the Revolution season 2, episode 3, Love Story. We listen to and talk about your feedback.

In this week’s discussion of the episode, Tom and Jenn talked about:

  • Rachel’s rescue, Miles rescuing Jessica and the other town lady
  • Monroe’s actions, and what we think he may be doing
  • The bounty hunter (Adam)
  • Miles and Titus’s strange agreement and plan – that all the  Willoughby folks all evacuate
  • How Jessica does not want to return to Titus
  • The guy working for the Patriots who made the deal with Titus (Garrett), and how his story unfoldedpodcast-150x150
  • Did Garrett kill Titus? Tom thinks he probably did but Jenn is not sure
  • The number of Patriot soldiers. It seems that there were a lot of them. Were they all in Guantanamo Bay for 14-15 years?
  • Neville’s new “story” was good but US Deputy Director Vince Cook did not believe him.
  • The continuation of the Aaron / Cynthia discussion, and Aaron’s change from last season
  • Rachel and her arrow wound. Will her nanite capsule help her?

Tom and Rob talked about:

  • The different love stories in this episode: Titus/Jessica, Miles/Rachel, Aaron/Cynthia
  • Miles and Rachel both have strong feelings for each other
  • Rob realizes Titus and Neville have very similar revenge motives
  • Rob was disappointed that Titus was not the main bad guy
  • Why did the Patriots want Willoughby? Is it related to the nanites, fireflies, and so on?
  • What was Titus going to do? Was his family going to move into Willoughby?
  • Rob calls Adam a “Ken doll.” We talk about Adam, Monroe and Charlie
  • We talk a little bit about the Kill Count streaks. Tom will try to get streak stats for next episode.
  • Neville and Jason’s new special project. Maybe Jason’s project has to do with Charlie

We played a voicemail from Todd in North Carolina. He mentions again that we still don’t know who caused the blackout on purpose.

We played a voicemail from Don (Dom?) also in North Carolina. He wants the writers to have more light, funny moments like Supernatural so the story can be more enduring. Jenn talks about the black humor that have soldiers have to deal with combat situations.

030 Revolution Fan Podcast – There Will Be Blood

S02E02-There-Will-Be-BloodIn this episode of Revolution Fan Podcast, Tom, Jenn, Shelley and Rob talk about the Revolution season 2, episode 2, There Will Be Blood. We update Questions & Answers and Kill Count and read and talk about your feedback.

Follow us on Twitter @RevFanPodcast. The official Revolution folks are answering Twitter questions each Thursdays at noon Eastern. To ask a question, use hashtag #PowerHalfHour.

In this week’s discussion of the episode, we talked about:

  • Our overall satisfaction on the episode
  • The religious theme with Aaron (miracle vs. science) and Titus
  • Aaron’s girlfriend Cynthia and how she is going to fit inpodcast-150x150
  • The dead rats – Jenn wondered if it could be that many rats that had to give up their life-force to bring back Aaron?
  • The scene we saw in the Tower with the bombs falling. Why did Aaron’s system crash right when we was about to shut off the power again?
  • Why did the power go off again permanently? Tom thinks it has to do with the nuclear detonation.
  • Charlie’s temporary captor had really nice teeth. Jenn thinks he will be a love interest for Charlie.
  • Charlie predicted the Monroe plot re escaping
  • The writers were a little cruel with Sheriff Mason – make fun of him (“Walker Texas Ranger”) and then shoot him in the head
  • The purpose of Titus’s blood test – are they transfusing the blood to the woman on the bed?
  • Miles’s escape attempt and breaking just his right hand
  • The creepiness of Titus’s family being his former students
  • The show is called Revolution, but last year’s revolution (against Monroe) is now changed; now we are revolting against the Patriots
  • Rachel’s attempt to rescue Miles
  • Rachel and Aaron’s conversation about the nanites’ change
  • How all the groups’ plots are related to the Patriots: Neville is right at the front, Monroe is being captured and brought to the Patriots, Titus’s group is communicating with them, and Rachel thinks Randall was following orders.
  • The Arabic letter with the Illuminati symbol. Shelley thinks the letter-writer may be really in control and not Titus
  • Tom tweeted the screen shot of the Arabic letter. @donveto responded with “Dina settled in north Texas camp. Temtove Androve is under control. and until we met on the time we specified”
  • Rob made the connection that both Neville and Titus’s statuses were elevated by the blackout
  • Jason’s purpose and Jason’s part on the show

We talked about this week’s Aaron’s Journal Entry called Lazarus. Aaron mentions what was strange about the other animals: “…a flock of starlings flying in a perfect quadrilateral, cicadas buzzing in harmony…” Jenn and Shelley thought the nanites infected the birds and gave them a hive mind.

Revolution Revealed had a funny section where Tracy Spiradakos (Charlie) said David Lyons (Monroe) told her it didn’t hurt, but David Lyons said it really hurt when Charlie whacked him.

We talked about Kyle Pope’s comment in last week’s comment section. Kyle points out how they did not mention Danny at all in the recap or the episode last week. Jenn pointed out they had a great opportunity this week and didn’t again.

We played a voicemail from Todd in North Carolina. Todd wants to get back to who caused the blackout. Jenn thinks it was just the nanite weapon that didn’t have enough containment testing. However, we don’t know if someone used the backdoor in Aaron’s operating system to lose containment on purpose.

We read an email from Rach in the Georgia Federation coast away from Atlanta. She asked and we talked about Grace and what she was doing. Will anyone else be safe from death? Jenn thinks Aaron might be the father of the nanites. Tom thinks Miles’s hand fracture might heal up from the nanites. Rach asked about the Ben vision. Is Cynthia up to no good? We don’t think so.

We’d like your feedback. Call and leave a voicemail at:

  • (234) 738-3265

or email revolutionfanpodcast@gmail.com. To be included in our podcast we’ll generally need your feedback by Thursday afternoon.

  • Aaron coming back to life. Was his pendant a factor?
  • The “United States government” and their false flag story that Monroe and Foster bombed each other

We talked about this week’s Aaron’s Journal Entry called Willoughby. He was really happy right before this episode happened.

Revolution Revealed is here. Eric Kripke confirmed that these “patriots” are not the United States government.

We also talked about our Questions and Answers from this week. We had no answers and a bunch of new questions. We reviewed the Kill Count for this week. We talked about what we saw in the preview for next week. The Interactive Map had a new entry for Willoughby but not for New Vegas or Washington D.C.

028 Revolution Fan Podcast – The Dark Tower

S01E20-The-Dark-Tower-misslesIn this episode of Revolution Fan Podcast, Tom, Jenn, Shelley and Rob talk about the Revolution season finale (episode 20), The Dark Tower. We update Questions & Answers and Kill Count and read and talk about your feedback.

In this week’s discussion of the episode, we talked about:

  • The continuation of unusual temporary alliances, like Miles, Monroe and Nora at the start of the episode
  • The Miles and Monroe showdowns, and Miles’ revelation that he and Monroe are still “brothers”
  • The flashbacks to show that Monroe killing the bombers wife and children was the start of the differences between Miles and Monroe
  • A little more about how the show will be Wednesdays at 8 PM next season
  • podcast-150x150and whether they would have to change the violence or language.
  • Neville and his leadership this week. We still like the character but he showed again how brutal he is
  • The Neville and Jason relationship and how Jason has been “betrayed” by his father again
  • The Rachel and Grace scene and how it was all about Danny
  • Rachel’s favoritism about Danny: The day he was born was the happiest day of her life
  • How Rachel disregarded Charlie’s plea for help for Nora
  • The Nora/Rachel scene where Nora said Miles loved Rachel and would always choose her. We took this back to the scene where Nora tried to break up with Miles the morning after they were last together
  • How we felt about Dan and his Tower People getting killed
  • Aaron writing the operating system that the Tower used
  • The short ASCII code on Aaron’s screen that said “Light the W” (cut off the screen) right before Aaron restored power
  • Randall and his actions, launching ICBMs, probably armed with nuclear weapons, at Philadelphia and Atlanta
  • The President and his staff at the United States Colony in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
  • Whether nuking those cities was part of the US Government’s plan
  • Whether the bombs will successfully detonate, or will Aaron maybe shut off the power again so the bombs won’t harm them
  • Our suspension of disbelief that the power plants, power grids, and wiring to houses were all in tact after 15 years of maintenance
  • What the different factions will do at the start of next season. Is Neville still going to have his alliance with Georgia?
  • How will Neville’s folks or Miles’s folks find out about the United States Colony and their return?
  • We talked about who this President was. Was he the surviving President from 2012, or someone newly elected, or someone else?

We talked about this week’s Footnotes which was another Aaron’s Journal Entry called The End.

Revolution Revealed episode 20 is here. The Interactive Map had new entries for the Tower and Cuba.

We also talked about our Questions and Answers from this week. We had a lot of answers this week and good new questions.

We reviewed the Kill Count for this week and the total for season 1.

We read email feedback from Keith, Natalie and Roger. Keith talked about Wool and how many people you would need to have enough genetic material to sustain. He also gave this link. Natalie had a couple of questions that we talked about. Roger brought up points about a variety of things from the episode. It reminded us to talk about Miles’s reaction to Nora’s death.

We talked about how we will probably record one new podcast episode, probably mid-August before Season 2 starts. We might try to give some Season 1 awards like best one-liner and best plea.

Shelley’s article about Philadelphia Wizard World is here.

We read an email feedback from Debbie Pyle who brought up new questions for our QA page. She brings up a great point that Ben significantly changed from one week before the blackout (when he thought it was unlikely to be a worldwide blackout) to right before the blackout (when he said it was going to turn off and never turn on).

We played a voicemail from Jeff from Massachusetts. We didn’t talk that much about what will happen next season with the United States Colony.

027 Revolution Fan Podcast – Initial Reaction to The Dark Tower

S01E20-The-Dark-TowerIn this episode of Revolution Fan Podcast, Tom gives his initial reaction to the Revolution season 1 finale (episode 20), The Dark Tower. The full episode will be out later this week.

We’d like your feedback for this week’s episode that we can read/play and respond to in our full episode coming out later this week. Call and leave a voicemail at:

  • (234) 738-3265
  • (234) REV-FAN5

or email voice feedback or written feedback to revolutionfanpodcast@gmail.com.

Tom started by talking about the violence warning which we have seen just once before. Miles and Monroe had 3 bouts of their showdown, but Miles told him why he left / tried to kill him, and later podcast-150x150why he couldn’t kill him – they will always be brothers.

Tom thought it was strange that Nora just killed all of Dan’s people, the Tower protectors. I understand that they are on the opposite side of Rachel, Aaron and Nora who each have their own reasons for turning the power back on. But I guess there wasn’t any way around it in this case.

It’s complicated between Miles and his feelings for Nora and for Rachel. However, things may be simpler now that Nora’s dead…

So, they get the power back on, and it seems the power plans, electric grids, and local wiring is pretty much intact after 15 years (16 years now?) without being serviced. That’s probably a place for suspending disbelief.

So, why all the lightning outside the Tower where Monroe was?

And finally, was this really the former US Government’s plan to turn on the power, and to launch missles at Philly and Atlanta? That’s kind of destructive.

All right, send us your feedback by Thursday at 6 PM Eastern so we can include it in our full episode.

026 Revolution Fan Podcast – Children Of Men

S01E19-Children-Of-MenIn this episode of Revolution Fan Podcast, Tom, Jenn, Shelley and Rob talk about Revolution season 1, episode 19, Children Of Men. We talk about a secret message in the Tower’s override code, we update Questions & Answers and Kill Count and read and talk about your feedback.

We started by reading an email from Deborah. She predicted that the Tower people were the scientists working in the Tower at the time of the blackout (which was right), protecting the Tower (which was right), and a super race of mutated humans that had nanite capabilities that have mutated (which we are not yet sure).

podcast-150x150We got into a tangent about Steven King references, and how after we get in the Tower, you have to get to Level 12, and then you may have to get to a certain computer, and so on, where there can be many more levels after this.

In this week’s discussion of Children Of Men, we talked about:

  • Neville, and how he is changing sides, or is he just continuing to always continue on his “side.”
  • The Monroe and Rachel brief alliance
  • Rachel’s grenade, and how she could have dispensed it better
  • The thought that goes through people who attempt suicide. Pretty much all people who survive said that as soon as they got past the point of no return, they regretted their decision.
  • This Monroe / Rachel scene is the only time we’ve seen Monroe’s ability to lead, to manipulate, and to get into other people’s mind
  • Whether Miles and Monroe will need to make a temporary alliance in this episode
  • How the Tower People’s ideas seem to be like a religion
  • How the “just another Monday” comment from Miles seemed to Tom to call back to episode 2.
  • Another call to why Aaron is important
  • How the Tower People have sealed themselves in by dismantling the elevators and probably blocking the staircases.
  • The coil guns and the Mythbusters reference
  • How do you kill anyone on the planet? Tom thought it might have been like Real Genius
  • The 62-character override code for the Tower Door, and how Tom wrote a blog entry about the secret message, “Fgnite the world, watch it burn
  • Whether the F in Fgnite may have been a production typo or whether there is a real reason for it
  • The VP bunker
  • The Rachel flashbacks with Ben before and after the blackout
  • Neville and the things he said to start the revolt
  • Miles and Monroe showing down, again…
  • Dan and his people, and burning Dr. Warren’s book
  • The 1 in a billion chance of burning everything if they flip the switch to turn the power back on
  • How many people you need to have enough genetic material to keep a population going
  • The episode title “Children Of Men”

Rob said if he were a writer on this show he would put a clue in an episode that was for a different episode.

The Footnotes this week is Aaron’s Journal Entry called The Price Of Power. Aaron said he would flip the switch even with the 1 in a billion risk.

We also talked about our Questions and Answers from this week. Did they have enough women working there to repopulate, or did they have families already living in the Tower at the time of blackout, or were they nearby?

We reviewed the Kill Count for this week.

In the preview for next week, The Dark Tower, they show them on Level 12, pressing [Enter] on a computer, and they show a shot of the world with the lights turning on.

We read email feedback from Deb, Natalie and Alan. Deb said there were women in Monroe’s camp. Natalie was amazed by Dan’s people and burning the book. Alan says the people keep turning out to be more important that we originally think that we find out as the series goes on.

If you use iTunes or the Apple Podcasts app, please give us a rating or review.

The Tower’s 62-Character Override Code

In Revolution’s Season 1, Episode 19, Children Of Men, Aaron was able to open the Tower’s door by entering a 62-character override code from Dr. Jane Warren’s book. This is a screen shot of the page Aaron was looking at:

S01E19-62-character-override-code

62-character override code

(You can click it for a larger version of the image.)

The code appears to be:

46 67 6e 69 74 65 20 74 68 65 20
77 6f 72 6c 64 2c 20 77 61 74 63 68
20 69 74 20 62 75 72 6e

(Some of the characters on the right of the screen are hard to read and may be wrong, except see below.)

This looks like 31 hexadecimal numbers separated by spaces. Hexadecimal is “base 16” and is commonly used with computers. The 16 hexadecimal numbers are the digits 0 through 9, and the letters a through f. “a” is 10, “b” is 11, up to “f” is 15. The next number, “10” represents 16.

With a 2-digit hexadecimal number, you can represent the numbers from 0 to 255, which is the number of combinations in a “byte.”

There are a lot of “20”s in here. Hexadecimal 20 stands out because it is a “space” in the ASCII table. ASCII standard for “American Standard Code for Information Interchange,” and is the code that is used to display characters on computer screens.

If you convert these hexadecimal characters to ASCII characters, it reads:

Fgnite the world, watch it burn

The first character, 46 is a capital “F.” A capital “I” (which would make the word “Ignite” which would make more sense) is hexadecimal 49.

The characters on the far right are hard to read. The “68” on the end of the 2nd line could be “67” or “63” but w-a-t-c-[something else] doesn’t make sense with a “g” or “c” at the end.

So, this is very interesting that Grace and Rachel’s warning that there is a 1 in a billion chance that flipping the switch to turn the power back on would set everything on fire is also written as a warning in the Tower override code. Aaron, given enough time, would figure this out. He probably could re-create the ASCII table on paper and decode this message, but he probably did not have enough time to do this.

It will be interesting to see if we see any of this again, and why does it say “Fgnite”? We’ll be watching!

What do you think? Add your comments below.

025 Revolution Fan Podcast – Initial Reaction to Children Of Men

S01E19-Children-Of-MenIn this episode of Revolution Fan Podcast, Tom gives his initial reaction to Revolution season 1, episode 19, Children Of Men. The full episode will be out later this week.

Tom started by talking about how the grenade did not do damage to Rachel or Monroe, but that allowed for more drama later.

Tom read the comment from Jeanne about Glenn Morshower, and how he was visible on the screen last week.

It was a

good week for reunions, with Aaron meeting up with everyone, Rachel meeting up with Monroe, Miles meeting up with Monroe, and Rachel and Aaron meeting up with Grace and Dan.

It was good to see Rachel / Ben flashbacks 1 week before and 4 months after the blackout. Rachel felt all that guilt right away.

Neville was great talking himself out of his situation, and Jason really helped by backing him up. It’s an interesting relationship they’ve built the last few weeks.

It’s going to be great to see how the Miles & Monroe showdown ends, as well as learning more about The Tower! Can’t wait for next week’s finale!

024 Revolution Fan Podcast – Clue

S01E18-ClueIn this episode of Revolution Fan Podcast, Tom, Jenn, Shelley and Rob talk about Revolution season 1, episode 18, Clue. We update Questions & Answers and Kill Count and talk about what is coming next.

We started by playing a clip from last week where Jenn predicted that Jim could be the mole, and because the Militia would get to Sophie and use her as leverage. We also red an email from Roger Sanderson about “redshirts.” He said what color the shirts were in Star Trek: TOS and Star Trek: TNG.

podcast-150x150In this week’s discussion of Clue, we talked about:

  • Nora and her torture, and how we see three weeks pass
  • How Nora did a great job holding out for three weeks
  • The white dress that Monroe gave to Nora
  • The drug injections they gave to Nora and how this affected her
  • Sanborn and where he stands on the good guy / bad guy scale
  • The scene with Monroe and Randall
  • Randall talks about skunk works in the Tower
  • Rachel and Aaron walking into Colorado with no horses
  • The answer about driving on cleared roads, and siphoning the auto and helicopter fuel from all the stopped autos and helicopters
  • The Whodunit – including “weapons in the bag”
  • Neville during this part of the episode
  • Poor Jason during this part of the episode
  • The short part where Jason whispers to Neville after Jason kills Jim – will that turn out to be important?
  • The misdirection with Jason seeing the Monroe Militia guy during the kiss with Charlie
  • Randall can’t get in the Tower
  • And who were all those people looking at them on the monitor?
  • In Revolution Revealed, David Rambo had a nice quote about what we’re going to see about The Tower in the next 2 episodes
  • Rachel’s plan to create a distraction (kill Monroe) so Aaron can get inside the Tower
  • What do you think will happen with Rachel’s grenade? Will Monroe or Rachel die?
  • The episode title “Clue”

In the clips for next week, we see a skirmish in the tent, an large explosion, and at least Aaron, Miles, and Charlie in the Tower.

The Footnotes this week is Aaron’s Journal Entry called Last Will and Testament. It’s a pretty interesting read. We also talked about our Questions and Answers from this week.

Is the Tower like its own character? We talked a little more about the people who are living in the Tower all these years.
